Government Accelerating Reforms to Boost Investment, Jobs and Export Competitiveness: Commerce Minister

The Government of Bangladesh is implementing fast-paced reforms to enhance the country’s investment climate, expand industrialization, create employment opportunities, and strengthen export competitiveness, said Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muqtadir.
Speaking as the Chief Guest at the discussion titled “Collaboration for Employment Generation and Skills Development in the Industrial Sector”, held at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara on Saturday, the minister highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to improve the ease of doing business through reforms in business registration, licensing, port management, and the energy sector.
He noted that nearly 85% of Bangladesh’s export earnings come from the Ready-Made Garment (RMG) industry, underscoring its vital role in the national economy. Referring to BGMEA as one of the country’s strongest and most organized business associations, he said that although sectors such as leather, jute, light engineering, and shipbuilding have significant potential, none is expected to match the scale and contribution of the RMG sector in the short term.
The minister emphasized that strengthening the apparel industry while developing a skilled workforce and ensuring a business-friendly environment will remain key priorities for sustaining Bangladesh’s economic growth.
